Side Piercing Kick
Yopcha Jirugi
The side piercing kick is one of the more commonly used
kicks in Taekwon-do sparring and is the foundation for
learning more advanced kicks such as the back piercing
kick. The attacking tool is the foot sword (blade of foot and
heel). The chambering system is similar to that of the front
snap kick. When extending the leg the toes should be
pulled back with the foot sword extended. The heel should
also be slightly higher than the toes. The hip should be
turned into the kick with the supporting foot turned away at
an angle of about 150 degrees.
