Gary Tong was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 1977. He started training in ITF Taekwon-Do at the age of 11 in the late 1988
at the International Taekwon-Do Academy-ITA under instructor Mr. Nelson Bernard Kirby 3rd Degree Black Belt (Now Grand
Master 8th Degree Black Belt)
He obtained his 1st Degree Black Belt in the early 1993 and promoted to 2nd Degree Black Belt in 1996 at the International
Taekwon-Do Academy-ITA graded by Master Low Koon Lin 7th Degree Black Belt then (Now Grandmaster 9th Degree Black Belt-
ITF) the founder and chief instructor of International Taekwon-Do Academy-ITA which is affiliated to International Taekwon-Do
Federation-ITF.
In year 2000, he joined the Super Taekwon-Do Academy which is affiliated to Malaysian Global Taekwon-Do Federation-MGTF
and trained under his second Taekwon-Do Instructor Mr. Rickie Low Ah Kuan 6th Degree Black Belt then (Now Sr. Master 8th
Degree Black Belt-MGTF) the founder and chief instructor of Super Taekwon-Do.
He gained his 3rd Degree Black Belt in Super Taekwon-Do in year 2001 promoted by Chief Instructor Mr Rickie Low Ah Kuan
6th Degree Black Belt then and subsequently appointed as an assistant instructor at the Super Taekwon-Do Academy.
Gary Tong has participated and assisting as a jury, judge and referee in a few academy, state and national Taekwon-Do
championships in Malaysia.
In 2004, he earned his 4th Degree Black Belt (# MGTF 3473) in Malaysian Global Taekwon-Do Federation-MGTF .
Gary Tong founded the Great Taekwon-Do Academy-GTA in year 2005 to provide Taekwon-Do private lessons and to assist
others Taekwon-Do Practitioners regardless of any affiliations. He joined as an affiliates & Voting member of the International
Ch’ang-Hon Taekwon-Do Federation-ICTF in May 2007 and converted to 4th Dan Black Belt ICTF (#1112) by Master Joe Cariati
8th Dan Black Belt the ICTF Executive President, membership and promotion committee chairman. He was accepted as a
registered member of Taekwon-Do Pioneers group by Grandmaster Choi Chang Keun 9th Degree Black Belt in September
2007 and since then Grandmaster C.K.Choi has became his Mentor and Adviser in Taekwon-Do. Grandmaster C.K Choi is a
Pioneer of Taekwon-Do, ITF Founding Member Instructor , World’s First Taekwon-Do Champion & Taekwon-Do Hall of Fame
2007.
Gary Tong has also participated in the International Instructor & Referee courses and a few others Taekwon-Do Seminars of
ITF, GTF, ICTF , MGTF ,including the "Advanced Technical Workshop" in Nov 2009 conducted by Supreme Master Kim Bok Man
11th Dan (Taekwon-Do Pioneer & Technical Founder, and World Chun Kuhn Do Federation Founder & President) & Shotokan
Karate workshop in 2005 conducted by Kancho Kanazawa 10th Dan , founder of SKIF.
He was promoted to 5th Degree Black Belt (# MGTF 07249) by Malaysian Global Taekwon-Do Federation-MGTF in 2007. At the
same time he was appointed as a Sr. Instructor in the Super Taekwon-Do Academy by chief Instructor Master Rickie Low Ah
Kuan 7th Degree Black Belt-GTF (Now 8th Degree Black Belt-MGTF) who was also the Treasurer General of MGTF then. Gary
Tong occassionally assist and train with Master Nelson Bernard Kirby 8th Degree Black Belt at his Taekwon-Do class. Grand
Master Nelson is the Founder and Chief Instructor of the Visual Martial Arts Tae Kwon Do-VMA and also the Vice President of
ICTF Malaysia 2008.
He also attained 5th Dan in International Ch’ang-Hon Taekwon-Do Federation-ICTF (#1383) graded by the Sr. Adviser of ICTF
and President of ICTF Malaysia Grandmaster Ally Teoh Cheng Hoe 9th Degree Black Belt ICTF in 2008.
Gary Tong was appointed as a Technical and Umpire Committee Chairman of ICTF in Malaysia by Sr. Master Joe Cariati 8th
Degree Black Belt, President of the International Ch’ang-Hon Taekwon-Do Federation –ICTF at the 1st ICTF Seminar in KL
Malaysia on the 30th August 2008.
In year 2009, Gary Tong was tested and promoted to 6th Degree Black Belt Master Instructor (#101-016) by Surpreme Master
Kim Bok Man 11th Dan (Founder & President of World Chun Kuhn Do Federation-WCKDF& Taekwon-Do Technical Founder)
In Jan 2010, he was promoted to 6th Dan Black Belt in International Ch'ang-Hon Taekwon-Do Federation-ICTF (#1776)
Gary Tong was awarded a 6th Degree Black Belt on April 2010 from Global Taekwon-Do Singapore (GTS) # SG-6-1, presented by
the Founder & President Grandmaster Simon Lee Kim Hong 8th Dan.
Gary Tong considers himself an independent Taekwon-Do Practitioner and non-exclusive with any one Taekwon-Do
organization. He is available to work with any organization that seeks his assistance in Taekwon-Do.
